Big Bad John, originally by Jimmy Dean
re-written, arranged and performed by the ‘burbanites and friends
deLima, the Screama, the Lemur, the Bean: You know who I’m talkin, you know what I mean. A slippery character, wrangled at last, And we’re here to tell you ‘bout a bit of his past.
Jon started out, it’s been said to me, Studyin’ at Milton Academy. Six foot two, and hair like a hive That would keep him afloat after a somersault dive.
DeLima’s family would start, rather charmily, To sing at the table in four-part harmony. So Jon learned to teach everybody the score, From Java Jive to My Love Open the Door.
At Amherst he’d walk into the dining hall. He’d see his friends and want to join them all. Nobody knew where Jon would dine: He’d set at your table, but he’d eat at mine.
Soon he took up as a Santa Fean And bought a motorbike to wow an Iowa flame. But the burnin’ sun in that desert sand Sent his leather pants to the promised land.
To the City of Angels, Jon soon deployed, Saving the day as a delivery boy. If you needed a permit to film your scene You couldn't do nothing 'til you saw the Bean.
Even-tu-ally Jon’s patience wore thin So he took up a job at the Gago-si-an It was good clean work in the world of art, and He got to rub elbows with the like of Steve Martin.
He's hitchin' to a woman with a whole lotta style. She's dangerous with a knife, has a hell of a smile. Through twists and turns, she'll keep him rollin' along: Takes a big, bad momma to match the likes of Big Jon.
Now here we are, in Cumming celebratin’ Jon and Siobhan, and the vows theyre takin’. All over Warren County, we'll sing the tune ‘bout a wonderful woman, and her big strange dude.
Big Jon.
Big Bad Jon.
